The Khanate of Sarai

::Bioculture:: Because of the extent of its dominion, Sarai is ethnically very diverse. The most populace groups are Mongolians, Qing, Caucasians, and those Polyasians whose ancestors migrated from Persia.

::Totem:: The original multi-ethnic Sarai had made their Covenant with the sturgeon.

::Religion:: The Taoism of Qing spread north and was embraced by the Khan. There are a number of communities which maintain a mainland brand of Shinto.

::Government:: The Khan is a sort of benevolent warrior-dictator whose rule is enforced by a mixed force of Mongols and Cossacks.

::Gender:: The Sarai are matriarchal. All officials are women. The advice of men is valued in matters of travel, crisis, and philosophy.

::Guilds:: The literature guilds of Sarai produce high-quality poems, tales, essays, and meta-narratives. The guilds have also perfected the generation of plasmed organisms known as engines which can perform the simple task that they were designed for, repetitively but not indefinitely (they tend to die after two or three years of continued use).

::Military:: The Khan uses her army of Mongols and Cossacks not only to keep order within Sarai, but also to repel invaders. Sarai is currently at war with Dorje Bala. Wives are expected to give their husbands over to the army to serve as shock troops during times of war.

::Shashi:: The Shashi are free-range and live totally outside of Sarai society. Large groups of shashi will slaughter smaller groups of Humans who stray from well-frequented areas, and eat them. In the mountains of the south, the bands of Shashi have grown especially bold.

::Geography:: All of Eurasia is controlled by the Sarai Khanate.
