HISTORY

|
| ::Bioculture:: |
The Tribes are descended from Northern Polyasians who
crossed the land bridge millenia ago. The smaller tribes are the
Blackfoot, Flathead, Yurok, Miwok, Shoshone, Wind River, Arapaho,
Cheyenne, Kiowa, Osage, Navajo, Apache, Comanche, Shawnee, Chickasaw,
Ofiokla, Huron, Erie, Fox, Ottawa, Chippewa, Kickapoo, and Honniasont.
The larger tribes are the Klamath (Coast), Paiute (Mountains), Crow
(Plains), Quapaw (Desert), Creek (Bluegrass), and the Iriquois (Lakes).
Each tribe has its own language. Each tribe will speak its own
language, the regional language of a large tribe, and the languages of
any other tribes with whom it has relatively close contact.
|
| ::Totem:: |
The Tribes had made their Covenant with the frog.
|
| ::Religion:: |
Shamans practice Spirit Medicine. Shamans maintain a tenuous
relationship between the Tribes and the reclusive Animal Nations.
|
| ::Government:: |
People belong to one of a vast number of tribes scattered
across the lands.
Decisions are made for each tribe in tribal council. There is little
coordination among the various tribes, but incursions by the Theocracy
of Golgotha and the Aztec Empire have forced a greater cohesion among
the Tribes.
|
| ::Gender:: |
Society is matrifocal. Men are excluded from tribal council,
but make up the bulk of the shamans.
|
| ::Guilds:: |
The Pueblo guilds are casual and open. They facilitate trade among the
various tribes. Their closest foreign partner is the Banner State, but
they will also trade with Noosaquiners.
The Tribes long ago perfected the technology of the biopueblo and it
spread across the Seeded Grounds, giving them their name. The pueblos
are self-regulating macro-organisms that provide dwellings and amenities
for the people. Each of these organisms reproduces by cloning in which
a shoot runs out into the ground. A single pueblo can be so large that
it straddles multiple climatic zones.
|
| ::Military:: |
The Pueblo rely heavily on their shamans for defending their
lands. There is no single authority that commands the entiriety of the
war scouts, but the war scouts' familiarity with their terrain, coupled
with their toughness and ingenuity makes up for this lack of central
organization. The eastern tribes, supported by the shamans of the west
are in a state of static trench warfare along the Appalachians. Because
the Golgothian state did not sign the Dusseldorf Convention, these
tribes find themselves under constant attack from all manner of
mutagenic weapons. The Appalachian range has become a difficult place
for life.
|
| ::Shashi:: |
Like all outsiders, the shashi are mostly excluded from native
society. They are respected as dangerous prey and enjoy some of the
status reserved for powerful animal totems.
|
| ::Geography:: | The Tribes occupy the lands to the south of the Banner State, from the continental divide of the west to the Appalachians of the east. There are six pueblos scattered across the lands inhabited by the Tribes: one of the Coast, one of the Mountains, one of the Desert, one of the Plains, one of the Bluegrass, and one of the Lakes. |
